Deb
Durant – Associate Consultant
Deb is an independent consultant and change agent
working predominantly in the cultural and creative industries and
is particularly interested in programmes that promote diversity
and cultural equity. She has been the Senior Evaluator of a £5
million programme of work funded under the European Social Fund
EQUAL programme which sought to tackle discrimination and promote
diversity in the creative industries.
Other current projects include
undertaking research and evaluation of an Arts Council England programme
called Maximise looking at the impact on audience development for
BME art across the country; and evaluating a £2 million programme
called Inclusion Through Media - a partnership programme of film
makers and broadcasters that use participatory media to create new
opportunities for marginalised people. She is also currently leading
on workplace learning research for the Arts Council's Cultural Leadership
programme which seeks to develop leaders from a wide range of backgrounds,
ensuring that the talent pool available in our rich and diverse
culture is fully nurtured. Other clients have included Tate Modern,
the DfES, Youth Culture Television, the Arts Council and many small
and medium scale cultural organisations.
Prior to self employment, Deb has enjoyed a varied career in the
creative industries as Director of Arts Centres, Education Officer,
set painter, DJ, rock promoter, musician, training manager, and
as Board member of a number of organisations....her career has spanned
both production and organisational development.
She has worked with
the award winning Hull Truck Theatre, United International Pictures
on a Bond and Indiana Jones movie, for Lee Evans Company Little
Mo Films and was for seven years the Training and Development Manager
at the Independent Theatre Council. Deb also headed up the Arts
and Cultural Unit of a regeneration agency for almost three years,
before commencing study for her Masters degree in Change Agent Skills
and Strategies. Deb is also a Board member of Total Theatre Network,
the national development agency for physical theatre and circus,
and a member of the Voting Academy for the Brit Awards.
In her free time Deb loves nothing more than to walk by the sea
or in the woods with her lovely lurcher, Basil.
